What Backbench is

Backbench presents public information about the people who govern the United Kingdom — members of Parliament, peers, mayors, councillors, members of the devolved legislatures, their votes, sponsored legislation, registered financial interests, and elections. Backbench is independent: it is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by UK Parliament, the UK Government, the Electoral Commission, or any political party.

Accuracy

All information is drawn live from official and public sources, including the UK Parliament APIs, the devolved legislatures, the Electoral Commission, postcodes.io and Democracy Club. We work to present it faithfully, but we do not control those sources and cannot guarantee completeness, accuracy or timeliness. Before relying on any information — for journalism, legal, or electoral purposes — verify it against the original register or record.

Your account

An account is optional. If you create one, you are responsible for the email address you register and for activity under your account. You may delete your account at any time from the Account screen, which removes your synced data.

Acceptable use

Do not use Backbench to harass any person, to scrape or overload the underlying public APIs, or for any unlawful purpose. Contact information shown for representatives is published for constituents’ legitimate correspondence.

Liability

Backbench is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from use of the app or reliance on information in it.

Changes

We may update these terms; material changes will be shown in the app. These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
